What is Swooshare?
Swooshare is a native Mac app for sharing files without creating an account. You shake your Mac (or click the menu bar icon), drop your files, and get a shareable link instantly. Free users can share up to 5 GB per transfer with password protection. There is no signup, no browser upload. It runs directly from your Mac menu bar.
How does the shake-to-share feature work?
Swooshare detects a shake gesture on your Mac, which opens the file-sharing window. You drag and drop files into the window, and Swooshare uploads them in the background using chunked transfers. Once complete, the shareable link is copied to your clipboard automatically. No account needed on either end.
Do I need an account to use Swooshare?
No. Swooshare requires no account, no signup, and no email address. You download the app and start sharing files immediately. Recipients also do not need an account. They click the link and download directly in their browser.
Is Swooshare free?
Yes. Swooshare has a free tier that includes 5 GB per share, 10 shares per month, 7-day link expiry, password protection, and in-page chat. There are no ads. Paid plans start at $5.99/month (or $59/year) for unlimited share sizes and 30-day expiry.
What platforms does Swooshare support?
Swooshare is a native macOS app that runs on any Mac with macOS 13 (Ventura) or later. Recipients can download shared files on any device with a web browser, including Windows, Linux, iPhone, and Android. A Windows version is in development.
Is Swooshare better than WeTransfer?
Swooshare offers several advantages over WeTransfer for Mac users: a native desktop app (no browser uploading), 5 GB free transfers, no AI training on uploaded files, password protection on the free tier, and pricing at $5.99/month vs WeTransfer's $6.99/month. Swooshare also includes in-page chat and file requests, which WeTransfer does not offer.
What are the best WeTransfer alternatives for Mac?
The top WeTransfer alternatives for Mac in 2026 include Swooshare (native Mac app, 5 GB free, $5.99/month Pro), SwissTransfer (50 GB free, browser-based), LocalSend (free, local network only), and Smash (unlimited file size, browser-based). Swooshare is the only option with a native macOS menu bar app and shake-to-share gesture.
How does Swooshare compare to AirDrop?
AirDrop works between nearby Apple devices over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Swooshare uploads files to the cloud and generates a shareable link that anyone can access from any device, anywhere. AirDrop requires physical proximity and Apple devices on both ends. Swooshare works with any recipient on any platform, over the internet.
Does Dropbox tell you when someone downloads a file?
No. Dropbox does not notify you when someone downloads a file from a shared link. Older Dropbox Business plans showed a "viewed by" list, but per-download notifications were discontinued, and free and Plus plans have no download tracking at all. If you need to know when a file is downloaded, Swooshare shows real-time download activity on every share link and sends a push notification to your Mac the moment a recipient downloads (Pro plan).
Does Dropbox show who downloaded a file?
Dropbox can show who viewed a file on some Business plans, but only if the viewer is signed into a Dropbox account, and it does not reliably show who downloaded it. Free and Plus plans show nothing. Swooshare shows each download with a timestamp on every share link, plus a real-time activity feed and Mac push notifications on the Pro plan.
Does Google Drive notify the owner when someone downloads a shared file?
No. Google Drive does not notify the owner when someone downloads a shared file. It can show a view count for people signed into a Google account, but it does not track downloads, and anyone who opens the link signed out or in a private window is invisible. Swooshare notifies you the moment a file is downloaded and logs who downloaded what and when (Pro plan).
What is Mail Drop and how does it work?
Mail Drop is a free feature built into Apple Mail on Mac and iPhone. When you attach a file larger than 20 MB, macOS uploads it to iCloud and replaces the attachment with a download link, so the email does not bounce. The recipient clicks the link and downloads in any browser without an Apple ID. Mail Drop handles files up to 5 GB, does not count against your iCloud storage, and links expire after 30 days. It has no password protection and no download tracking, which is where a dedicated tool like Swooshare helps.
How do I send large audio files from my Mac?
Email caps attachments at around 25 MB, so WAV files, stems, and project folders need a dedicated tool. With Swooshare, select the audio folder in Finder, shake to share, and copy the link. There is no per-share size limit on any plan, the full folder structure stays intact, and lossless WAV quality is preserved with no compression. The recipient downloads everything in their browser with no account.
How do I share large files on Mac without email?
Download Swooshare (free), shake your Mac or click the menu bar icon, drag your files into the sharing window, and copy the generated link. You can share files up to 5 GB for free (unlimited on Pro). The link can be sent via iMessage, Slack, WhatsApp, or any messaging app. No account is needed.
How do I send a video file that is too large for email?
Most email providers limit attachments to 25 MB. With Swooshare, you can share video files up to 5 GB for free (unlimited on Pro plans). Drag the video into the sharing window on your Mac, and it generates a download link. The recipient downloads the full-quality video in their browser with no compression or quality loss.
How do I password-protect a shared file on Mac?
Swooshare includes password protection on all plans, including the free tier. When sharing a file, toggle the password option and set a password before generating the link. The recipient will need to enter the password before downloading. Most competing services charge for this feature.
How do I share files from my Mac to someone on Windows?
With Swooshare, you share files from your Mac and the recipient downloads them in any web browser on Windows, Android, Linux, or any other platform. There is nothing to install on the recipient's side. You get a link, they click it and download.
Is Swooshare safe to use?
Yes. Swooshare stores files on Cloudflare's infrastructure with encryption in transit and at rest. Your files are not used to train AI models, and Swooshare does not sell user data. Password protection is available on all plans, including the free tier. The privacy policy explicitly prohibits using uploaded content for machine learning purposes.
Where is my data stored when I use Swooshare?
Swooshare stores uploaded files on Cloudflare R2 in the Eastern Europe (EEUR) region. Files are encrypted during transfer (TLS) and at rest (AES-256). Free-tier files are automatically deleted after 7 days. Pro-tier files expire after 30 days. All data is permanently purged after the expiry period.
Does Swooshare use my files to train AI?
No. Swooshare does not use uploaded files to train AI models, improve machine learning systems, or for any purpose other than delivering them to the intended recipient. This is stated in the terms of service. By contrast, WeTransfer updated its terms in 2025 to allow AI training on user-uploaded content, which prompted user backlash.
How much does Swooshare cost?
Swooshare offers three plans: Free ($0, 5 GB per share, 10 shares/month, 7-day expiry), Pro ($5.99/month or $59/year, unlimited share size, 50 shares/month, 30-day expiry), and Ultra ($12.99/month or $129/year, unlimited shares, never-expire links, white-label). All plans include password protection and in-page chat.
Is Swooshare cheaper than WeTransfer?
Yes. Swooshare Pro costs $5.99/month compared to WeTransfer Starter at $6.99/month. Swooshare also includes password protection on the free tier, while WeTransfer requires a paid plan for passwords. The annual Swooshare Pro plan is $59/year compared to WeTransfer's approximately $69/year.
What is the maximum file size I can share with Swooshare?
On the free plan, each share has a 5 GB total size limit (which can contain multiple files). On the Pro plan ($5.99/month) and Ultra plan ($12.99/month), there is no per-share size limit. The upload uses chunked transfer technology, so large uploads can resume if your internet connection is interrupted.
How long do Swooshare download links last?
Swooshare download links expire based on your plan: 7 days on Free, 30 days on Pro, and never on Ultra. After expiry, files are permanently deleted from Swooshare's servers. You can re-share the same files to generate a new link if needed.
Can recipients reply with files using Swooshare?
Yes. Every Swooshare share link includes a built-in chat where recipients can leave comments, ask questions, and reply with files of their own. Recipients do not need an account or the Swooshare app. This turns a simple file share into a two-way conversation.
